Katrina has thought of herself as a teacher for a very long time. While it's possible that she truly became a teacher way back when she helped her younger sister learn how to read, now she can look to a wealth of experiences in a variety of settings that have helped her to become worthy of such an honorable title. From helping to run an arts and entrepeneurship program for youth in a rural community of Bahia, Brazil; assistant teaching cooking classes in an afterschool program in Oakland, California; to earning her Masters in Teaching and New York State certification in a residency program in New York City public schools, the greatest lesson Katrina has learned as both a student and a teacher is that adolescents and children are always the brightest minds in the room. She feels very fortunate to continue to be in their presence, to facilitate their learning, and to give them the tools they need to define and build success for themselves.
